AU 2011 Update

(Click for best view at original size)
AU is Autodesk University, and it happens every year during the week following Thanksgiving.  Eveyrthing about AU is huge.  And because of the size only a major hotel/casino/convention complex in Las Vegas is suitable.  This year AU was held at the Venetian Hotel and Sands Convention Center.  Attendees come from all over the world, and this year over 80 countries sent 8,000+ to the event.  They came to teach and participate in over 1,000 classes on a wide variety of subjects this year.

The image at the top was taken at this year's general session.  Word circulating beforehand was that there would be something big... but I don't think anyone expected a display screen 30 ft high by at least 150 ft wide!  Easily the biggest I've ever seen.

Puttin' on the feedbag

And of course everyone needs to be fed... so what to do?  That's no problem in Las Vegas.  Breakfasts and (delicious!) lunches were served everyday with military precision in a room large enough to build Boeing airplanes.  Buffet style too.  Nobody leaves hungry.

If you haven't been to the Venetian it's worth a visit even if you don't stay there.  It's new and clean and first class in every way.

Think: Santa Lucia

Next year AU will be back at the Mandalay Bay.  See you there!

Kate Morical of Autodesk, yours truly, & Mr. Sam Adams :)

  1. Glad to see Mr Sam was with you, I would have thought Mr Leinenkugel would have attended also, bet you had a great time and I'm sure learned plenty of new things! Nothing like a convention to get the creative juices flowing!
